Dearest Des Rest in peace with June who was the love of your life. Thank you for the friendship to my parents, to my siblings and their families, to JP and I and our boys. We all have many fond memories of your yearly visits to Australia along with our visit to you in NZ when the boys were younger. Our love to Barry and Lisa as well as the extended family. We will think and talk of you often - lots of memories with us always. All our love Amanda, JP, Jarrod and Regan xx
I have never known a time when Des wasn’t my neighbour. He was there throughout my childhood, growing up in our family home in Malvern Street, and then, many years later, when Sam and I bought the property next door, I had the very special experience of becoming his neighbour all over again, this time with a family of my own. Over the years we shared many conversations across the fence, and it was lovely to see that relationship extend to another generation, with our daughter Matilda waving to Des, and latterly to Barry, whose name she now knows well. There are so many fond memories woven through those years. Des and I shared a love of the theatre, and one particularly special memory is of accompanying him to a performance at the Regent one evening. Des chauffeured me there and home again, ever the gentleman, and it is an evening I will always remember with great affection. I will miss our yarns over the fence, the occasional cuppa and sponge cake, and simply knowing that Des was next door, as he had been for as long as I can remember. It feels very strange to imagine Malvern Street without him. I feel incredibly fortunate to have known Des not only as a much-loved neighbour, but as a constant presence across so many different chapters of my life. With much love to Barry, Lisa and all of Des’ extended family.
A lovely service for a wonderful person, so much more history and stories of Des and June's time together and their family. We have many memories of our time with Des during his trips to Australia for his visits with my parents (Laurie & Lynne), and have always loved the New Zealand and Railway calendars each Christmas and the boys money to buy books to encourage their reading. We remember all the good times we spent with Des in New Zealand and the many many visits he had to Australia with us he loved coming across the ditch , and especially visiting magnetic island with us. It was one of his favorite places. We will miss his friendship and regular phone conversations and emails. Rest in peace with your darling June our dear Kiwi friend for over 40 years.
